What It’s Like to Be an Anglophile: A Love Letter to British Charm

Let’s be honest .. if you’re an Anglophile, you just know. There’s no explaining the sheer joy of spotting a red phone booth in the wild, the need to own multiple varieties of tea, or the deep emotional attachment to Bake Off. It’s a lifestyle, a mindset, and, let’s face it, a full-blown obsession.

So, what’s it like to be an Anglophile? Let me paint you a picture.

1. Tea Is a Personality Trait

You don’t just drink tea; you experience tea. You have a go-to blend (or five), a selection of mugs that match the mood, and a deep reverence for the art of a proper cuppa. And yes, you’ve tried to explain to your American friends why Yorkshire Tea just hits different.

2. Cozy Vibes Are a Must

You aspire to live in an English cottage, or at least make your home feel like one. Think floral wallpaper, a well worn armchair, and a fireplace with a cat curled up nearby. Even if you don’t have a cottage (yet), you make up for it with candlelight, bookshelves full of classic literature, and a collection of knit blankets that would make Miss Marple proud.

3. You Have Strong Opinions on British TV

You’ve seen Downton Abbey more times than you care to admit, The Great British Bake Off feels like a warm hug, and you may or may not have a slight crush on Colin Firth’s Mr. Darcy. BBC dramas are your comfort food, and nothing excites you more than a cozy British mystery series.

4. Your Vocabulary Is a Bit…Different

You casually slip words like “brilliant,” “cheers,” and “bloody” into conversation, and it takes everything in you not to say “loo” instead of “bathroom.” Your spellings? A little more British than American, and autocorrect is forever confused.

5. You Celebrate British Holidays

Pancake Day? Check. Bonfire Night? Absolutely. Afternoon Tea for the Queen’s (or now, the King’s) birthday? Of course. You find joy in any excuse to add a bit of British flair to your calendar.

6. You Romanticize Everyday Life (the British Way)

A rainy day? Perfection. A trip to the local bakery? Feels like a scene from The Holiday. You find charm in the mundane, believing every moment can have a touch of storybook magic, just add a warm drink and a walk in the drizzle.

7. The UK Is Your Ultimate Travel Destination

While others dream of tropical beaches, you’re over here planning the perfect countryside getaway .. Cotswolds, anyone? A historic London bookshop, a National Trust property, a seaside village with a proper chippy…this is your dream itinerary.

8. British Accents Just Sound Better

You could listen to Stephen Fry narrate Harry Potter forever, and you have an inexplicable fondness for any TV show hosted by Richard Ayoade or David Attenborough. The soothing tones of British voices? Pure bliss.

9. You Have a Deep Appreciation for British History and Culture

From the Tudors to the Royal Family, from Shakespeare to Beatrix Potter, you soak up British history and culture like a sponge. Castles, gardens, and literary landmarks make your heart skip a beat.

10. It’s More Than an Interest—It’s a Way of Life

Being an Anglophile isn’t just about loving tea or watching British TV – it’s about embracing the simple joys, the coziness, the traditions, and the deep rooted charm that makes British culture so special. Whether it’s in your home decor, your hobbies, or just the way you enjoy a slow, thoughtful moment, the British way of life calls to you.

So, if you find yourself daydreaming about countryside strolls, obsessing over scones and clotted cream, or secretly wishing you lived in a village where everyone gathers at the local pub, welcome to the club. You, my friend, are a certified Anglophile. Cheers to that!

The ginkgo tree is putting on the loveliest show t The ginkgo tree is putting on the loveliest show this week 🍂 Its leaves are falling fast, blanketing the ground in gold. It stopped me in my tracks yesterday .. too beautiful not to share.
19 Years : Nineteen years ago today, Shelby and I 19 Years : Nineteen years ago today, Shelby and I got married on Veteran’s Day (because he could get leave from the Navy, haha) I remember it being a cold day.. simple and perfect in its own way. Just us, our best friends, and family.

Back then, it was hard to imagine what life would look like 19 years down the road. But looking back now, I can honestly say we’ve come a long way. We’ve weathered a lot of storms, shared a lot of laughter, and have some of the best things to show for it .. our kids.

As we step into this next season, with new things ahead (territory we’ve never walked before, with our kids growing up and college right around the corner), I’m praying the next 19 years and beyond are filled with joy, peace, and a whole lot of FUN. We may not always know what’s coming next, but I know we’ll figure it out together.
This past weekend we traveled just outside of Nash This past weekend we traveled just outside of Nashville, TN for the high school marching band state championship. It’s something our band does every year, and we always look forward to it! It’s always cold, but this year took things up a notch with pouring rain, strong winds, and freezing temperatures. (Swipe to see!)

These kids are incredible. Last year they placed 3rd, so this year their goal was 2nd. Unfortunately, because of a technical malfunction in the rain, they missed 3rd place by just 0.05 points and came in 4th. They were so disappointed, especially the seniors, but honestly .. 4th out of 27 bands in those miserable conditions is still something to be proud of.

We made the most of it and stayed overnight, stopped by our favorite Nashville breakfast spot the next morning (swipe to see how beautiful it is), popped into a fun little shop, and then made our way home.

So grateful for weekends like this .. the messy weather, sleepy mornings, proud hearts, and time together as a family.
Most people know the sound of Taps. Those 24 haun Most people know the sound of Taps. Those 24 haunting, beautiful notes that close a soldier’s day and for many, mark their final rest. It’s one of the most meaningful traditions in our country’s history, a moment of honor and remembrance that never fails to bring tears.

This November, in the spirit of Veteran’s Day, I wanted to take a moment to honor my husband Shelby and his service to the Navy. During his career, Shelby played Taps hundreds of times. Each note performed with perfection, reverence, and deep respect. In his career he’s played in ceremonies before high ranking officials, U.S. Presidents, and military dignitaries… and he’s played just as faithfully in little family cemeteries miles from anywhere .. no spotlight, no fanfare, just a few loved ones and the weight of what those notes mean. He’s stood at attention for both strangers and loved ones (including his own grandfather and mine) giving each the same measure of honor they deserved. And even NOW, years later, he still answers the call whenever asked to play.

Shelby is a special man. It takes time to really know him, and not everyone gets the privilege of being on the inside. But those who do, know that he carries himself with quiet integrity and strength. No matter what the world says, or how often others might overlook or discredit him, this part of his story is untouchable. It’s something sacred. Not everyone can do what he does .. and nobody can take this gift, this honor, away from him.

I’m just so proud of him, and the example he sets for our children.
