Shelby and Tristan’s first Jackson Area Community Shelby and Tristan’s first Jackson Area Community Band concert is in the books! I’m so happy they’ve been able to do this together on Monday nights throughout the semester. Even more special having Mr Barnett as their conductor .. as he was mine and Shelby’s college band director in West Virginia. Such a full circle moment. Thankful for these moments and memories! 🎶
I didn’t take a lot of pictures of Thanksgiving th I didn’t take a lot of pictures of Thanksgiving this year, but I think that’s because I was just enjoying the moment instead. We had such a nice day. We walked across the street to see Mrs. Cindy’s fish, played in the leaves, made Christmas trees out of pine cones, ate lots of good food, watched sumo wrestling, laughed a lot, and looked through some vintage jewelry to pick out our favorites. We also had some really good conversations. It was a calm, relaxing day .. exactly what we all needed. ❤️🦃
Yesterday was a packed but really perfect day. We Yesterday was a packed but really perfect day. We drove about 90 minutes away for Tristan and Kate to audition for the All West Band for TN. Kate at 10:00 and Tristan around noon. The warm ups inside the gym and auditorium felt so chaotic, but in a way, it added to the whole experience. 🎶

Each of them auditioned individually behind a curtain, playing two prepared pieces, two scales, and then sight reading a new piece. Nerves were definitely high, and I think that played into how everyone felt they performed .. but they are so proud of themselves for stepping into something completely new.

It was also really sweet seeing them run into classmates to warm up with and having something familiar and calming in the middle of it all.

Afterward, since we were already “out of town,” I treated them to a delicious lunch and then took Tristan to get fitted for his first suit. His fitter was truly the BEST and made the whole experience so fun and memorable for him.

We rushed home after to meet Shelby at his parents’ house to help unload a massive U-Haul of items they brought back from Texas after cleaning out his grandpa’s home. We actually have to finish helping with that today ..

We ended the day with dinner together and finally made it home to rest. Tired, grateful, and thankful for a full, meaningful, and memorable day. ❤️

19 Years : Nineteen years ago today, Shelby and I 19 Years : Nineteen years ago today, Shelby and I got married on Veteran’s Day (because he could get leave from the Navy, haha) I remember it being a cold day.. simple and perfect in its own way. Just us, our best friends, and family.

Back then, it was hard to imagine what life would look like 19 years down the road. But looking back now, I can honestly say we’ve come a long way. We’ve weathered a lot of storms, shared a lot of laughter, and have some of the best things to show for it .. our kids.

As we step into this next season, with new things ahead (territory we’ve never walked before, with our kids growing up and college right around the corner), I’m praying the next 19 years and beyond are filled with joy, peace, and a whole lot of FUN. We may not always know what’s coming next, but I know we’ll figure it out together.
This past weekend we traveled just outside of Nash This past weekend we traveled just outside of Nashville, TN for the high school marching band state championship. It’s something our band does every year, and we always look forward to it! It’s always cold, but this year took things up a notch with pouring rain, strong winds, and freezing temperatures. (Swipe to see!)

These kids are incredible. Last year they placed 3rd, so this year their goal was 2nd. Unfortunately, because of a technical malfunction in the rain, they missed 3rd place by just 0.05 points and came in 4th. They were so disappointed, especially the seniors, but honestly .. 4th out of 27 bands in those miserable conditions is still something to be proud of.

We made the most of it and stayed overnight, stopped by our favorite Nashville breakfast spot the next morning (swipe to see how beautiful it is), popped into a fun little shop, and then made our way home.

So grateful for weekends like this .. the messy weather, sleepy mornings, proud hearts, and time together as a family.
Most people know the sound of Taps. Those 24 haun Most people know the sound of Taps. Those 24 haunting, beautiful notes that close a soldier’s day and for many, mark their final rest. It’s one of the most meaningful traditions in our country’s history, a moment of honor and remembrance that never fails to bring tears.

This November, in the spirit of Veteran’s Day, I wanted to take a moment to honor my husband Shelby and his service to the Navy. During his career, Shelby played Taps hundreds of times. Each note performed with perfection, reverence, and deep respect. In his career he’s played in ceremonies before high ranking officials, U.S. Presidents, and military dignitaries… and he’s played just as faithfully in little family cemeteries miles from anywhere .. no spotlight, no fanfare, just a few loved ones and the weight of what those notes mean. He’s stood at attention for both strangers and loved ones (including his own grandfather and mine) giving each the same measure of honor they deserved. And even NOW, years later, he still answers the call whenever asked to play.

Shelby is a special man. It takes time to really know him, and not everyone gets the privilege of being on the inside. But those who do, know that he carries himself with quiet integrity and strength. No matter what the world says, or how often others might overlook or discredit him, this part of his story is untouchable. It’s something sacred. Not everyone can do what he does .. and nobody can take this gift, this honor, away from him.

I’m just so proud of him, and the example he sets for our children.
