The Ultimate Harry Potter Movie Night Starter Kit

There’s just something about the Harry Potter movies that feels like home, isn’t there? The candlelight, the music, the coziness of Hogwarts .. it all feels like comfort and wonder rolled into one.

If you’ve ever wished you could bring a bit of that magic into your own living room, this Harry Potter Movie Night Starter Kit is for you. (available for FREE DOWNLOAD below!)

It’s a simple way to make an ordinary night feel a little more special! Full of cozy details, easy recipes, and that familiar Hogwarts charm. It’s perfect for a family night, a fall weekend, or even a rainy afternoon when you just want something fun and nostalgic.

And this is just the beginning! I’ll be sharing a full Harry Potter Movie Marathon Guide soon! It’s packed with even more recipes, crafts, games, and movie night ideas. But for now, consider this your first little dose of ordinary magic.

Step One: Choose Your Movie

Every Harry Potter film has its own kind of magic. From the wonder of The Sorcerer’s Stone to the adventure and bravery of The Deathly Hallows.

Start wherever you like (though there’s something special about beginning at the very start). Pop some popcorn, grab your blanket, and let that familiar theme music fill the room.

No matter where you begin, magic is waiting.

Step Two: Set the Mood

Picture your living room softly glowing, the candles flickering, the soundtrack playing quietly in the background…

Transform your space into a little piece of Hogwarts with a few simple touches:

  • Hang floating candles from the ceiling using LED candles and fishing line.
  • Add house scarves or colors to your couch or table.
  • Fill a few glass jars with colored water and label them as potions.
  • Play the Harry Potter soundtrack softly while you get everything ready.

In just a few minutes, your living room feels less like a room, and more like the Great Hall!

Step Three: Make Something Magical

Because no movie night is complete without snacks worthy of Honeydukes. (recipes in the guide below!)

Butterbeer Popcorn

Sweet, buttery, and kissed with butterscotch .. the kind of treat you can’t stop reaching for. Drizzle with caramel or white chocolate for that frothy Butterbeer touch.

Cauldron Cakes

Chocolate cupcakes filled with fudge or frosting so they “bubble” like little cauldrons. Messy. Delicious. Completely worth it.

Butterbeer

The golden drink of Hogsmeade .. sweet, frothy, and full of buttery caramel flavor. Best served warm in cozy mugs, especially if you’ve just survived a long day of Muggle errands.

Mandrake Mocktail

A fizzy orange and pineapple punch that’s bright, cheerful, and completely safe from screaming.

Witch’s Brew

Lime sherbet, lemon lime soda, and pineapple juice swirl together into a bubbly, potion like punch that’s as fun to make as it is to drink.

Step Four: The Great Hall Feast

Think cozy, hearty food that makes your table feel full and warm.

A Harry Potter movie night calls for comfort food, the kind that feels like a feast without the fuss.

Ideas to include:

  • Roasted chicken drumsticks
  • Mini meat pies or hand pies
  • Roasted potatoes and veggies
  • Crusty bread, cheese, apples, and grapes
  • Pumpkin pasties for something sweet

If you want to make it extra fun, create Hogwarts House Burgers .. one for each house:

Gryffindor: Spicy beef with pepper-jack cheese and crispy onions
Ravenclaw: Turkey with Swiss and garlic aioli
Hufflepuff: BBQ chicken with cheddar and honey mustard
Slytherin: Beef or veggie with provolone and pesto

Set everything out on wooden boards, light the candles, and suddenly it feels like the Great Hall.

Step Five: Visit Honeydukes

Every great movie night deserves something sweet.

Create your own Honeydukes Candy Buffet with simple treats:

  • Chocolate Frogs
  • Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans (just jelly beans!)
  • Licorice Wands (chocolate-dipped pretzel rods)
  • Sugar Quills (rock candy sticks)
  • Pop Rocks mixed with chocolate candies for “Fizzing Whizbees”

Arrange everything in glass jars with little labels and add fairy lights for that sparkly, magical touch.

Step Six: Add a Little Fun

A few easy ideas that make the night feel even more magical:

  • Make your own wand (chopsticks + hot glue + paint = instant Ollivander’s magic).
  • Host a Sorting Hat Ceremony to see which house everyone belongs to.
  • Try a round of Harry Potter trivia and award a “House Cup” to the winner.

It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be fun.

Make It a Thing

Turn off your phone. Dim the lights. Let the magic happen.

Pour the Butterbeer, light the candles, and let yourself get swept up in the story .. because sometimes, the best kind of magic is the kind you make at home.

This little Harry Potter Movie Night Starter Kit is just that! A simple, fun, and cozy way to bring a touch of Hogwarts to your family’s night in.

And don’t worry… this is only the beginning. My full Harry Potter Movie Marathon Guide is coming soon, with detailed menus, games, crafts, printables, and a complete watch schedule for every film.

The ginkgo tree is putting on the loveliest show t The ginkgo tree is putting on the loveliest show this week 🍂 Its leaves are falling fast, blanketing the ground in gold. It stopped me in my tracks yesterday .. too beautiful not to share.
19 Years : Nineteen years ago today, Shelby and I 19 Years : Nineteen years ago today, Shelby and I got married on Veteran’s Day (because he could get leave from the Navy, haha) I remember it being a cold day.. simple and perfect in its own way. Just us, our best friends, and family.

Back then, it was hard to imagine what life would look like 19 years down the road. But looking back now, I can honestly say we’ve come a long way. We’ve weathered a lot of storms, shared a lot of laughter, and have some of the best things to show for it .. our kids.

As we step into this next season, with new things ahead (territory we’ve never walked before, with our kids growing up and college right around the corner), I’m praying the next 19 years and beyond are filled with joy, peace, and a whole lot of FUN. We may not always know what’s coming next, but I know we’ll figure it out together.
This past weekend we traveled just outside of Nash This past weekend we traveled just outside of Nashville, TN for the high school marching band state championship. It’s something our band does every year, and we always look forward to it! It’s always cold, but this year took things up a notch with pouring rain, strong winds, and freezing temperatures. (Swipe to see!)

These kids are incredible. Last year they placed 3rd, so this year their goal was 2nd. Unfortunately, because of a technical malfunction in the rain, they missed 3rd place by just 0.05 points and came in 4th. They were so disappointed, especially the seniors, but honestly .. 4th out of 27 bands in those miserable conditions is still something to be proud of.

We made the most of it and stayed overnight, stopped by our favorite Nashville breakfast spot the next morning (swipe to see how beautiful it is), popped into a fun little shop, and then made our way home.

So grateful for weekends like this .. the messy weather, sleepy mornings, proud hearts, and time together as a family.
Most people know the sound of Taps. Those 24 haun Most people know the sound of Taps. Those 24 haunting, beautiful notes that close a soldier’s day and for many, mark their final rest. It’s one of the most meaningful traditions in our country’s history, a moment of honor and remembrance that never fails to bring tears.

This November, in the spirit of Veteran’s Day, I wanted to take a moment to honor my husband Shelby and his service to the Navy. During his career, Shelby played Taps hundreds of times. Each note performed with perfection, reverence, and deep respect. In his career he’s played in ceremonies before high ranking officials, U.S. Presidents, and military dignitaries… and he’s played just as faithfully in little family cemeteries miles from anywhere .. no spotlight, no fanfare, just a few loved ones and the weight of what those notes mean. He’s stood at attention for both strangers and loved ones (including his own grandfather and mine) giving each the same measure of honor they deserved. And even NOW, years later, he still answers the call whenever asked to play.

Shelby is a special man. It takes time to really know him, and not everyone gets the privilege of being on the inside. But those who do, know that he carries himself with quiet integrity and strength. No matter what the world says, or how often others might overlook or discredit him, this part of his story is untouchable. It’s something sacred. Not everyone can do what he does .. and nobody can take this gift, this honor, away from him.

I’m just so proud of him, and the example he sets for our children.
